Sometimes I am amazed at how far guitar manufacturers have gone in developing guitars that are affordable for everyone (and I mean everyone!) Rogue, I think has gone the farthest with their PA-090 Dreadnought mode, offering it under $100 (sometimes even under $60). If you do not own a guitar and want to test the waters without spending too much on a guitar that you might not be interested in in a couple of months, or you want a gift for your kind of a clumsy kid who breaks anything and everything, this model might be a lifesaver. I am not going to argue that this is the best guitar on the market (because it is far from that) but you will definitely get the most basic stuff you need and if something happens to it you will not be that disappointed.
This 6-string acoustic guitar is a great instrument for someone who is just starting off. Dreadnought is one of the most popular guitar styles and most people enjoy it, so you will probably not go wrong with this style. The neck is C-shapes and made of nato. Nato is probably not the best material for guitars, it definitely is cheap but if you want a guitar for a low price you will have to compromise the quality of some parts.
I would not say that it will make your practices harder or that you will find a significant difference in tone and sound of your guitar because as a beginner those things are harder to catch. Surprisingly, this neck produces quite a nice sustain and the C-shape makes playing a lot more comfortable. The body is whitewood, which is also on the cheaper side of the guitar woods but as already mentioned, you gotta sacrifice a thing or two for the cost.
I think the priority of a person buying a cheaper guitar like this is learning how to play, not blasting out the most beautiful tonalities in human existence, therefore this one will do the job. Overall, I think one of the biggest pluses about this guitar is its light construction. It is vital for a beginner to have something comfortable that will ease them into playing and light guitars are a great option.
Strings on RA-090, surprisingly, are very comfortable and quite nice quality. The painted maple bridge and fingerboard give more clarity to notes. C-shape neck, 1-2/3″ nut width, and 16″ radius make it easier for you to play and the headstock nut is robust and cleanly cut. Nicely polished and rounded edges. This model also features nickel hardware and covered tuners.
Rogue RA 090 Sound
This guitar has a full and warm sound as well as deep, clear tones that you would not expect from something at such a low price. The action is low (could be better) with a balanced treble. Fingerstyle and picking work very well on this one. And dreadnaught style gives this model a deep, resonant sound that I did not expect from this model.
Rogue has created RA-090 Dreadnought guitar as an amazing deal for anyone who wanted to start playing guitars but was not sure enough to pay hundreds of dollars. This model is a comfortable, lightweight guitar that has all the necessities and nothing more – a gem for a beginner.
